Dunhuang culture “flashes” in China National Silk Museum

The sound of camel bells, boats across the river, stretching for thousands of miles, lasting for thousands of years. Since 2020, the Silk Road Week, jointly organised by State Administration of Cultural Heritage and People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, has been successfully held in the Silk Palace for three consecutive years, it has attracted more than 200 cultural institutions from 22 countries and more than 20 million people to participate in online and offline activities, which has become a long-term annual international human exchange activities.

Yesterday, “2023 Silk Road Week” officially opened in the China Silk Museum. The theme of this year’s “Silk Road Week” is “Learn from each other and win-win results”, with Hungary as the guest of Austrian Museum of Applied Arts.

At the opening ceremony, the annual report of Silk Road Cultural Heritage 2022 was officially released. The annual report was compiled by 21 experts in the field of cultural heritage from six countries, the annual report comprehensively records, Combs and recommends the“Top 10” list of archaeological discoveries, thematic exhibitions, academic achievements and cultural events of 2022 World Silk Road cultural heritage.

It is worth mentioning that the event theme exhibition“Grand View of civilization: Dunhuang on the Silk Road” has also been launched at the same time. According to the staff of the China Silk Museum, this exhibition broke through the limitation of mural art for the first time, and innovatively set up the Dunhuang governance, Dunhuang and Zhejiang plates, exhibiting more than 30 first-class cultural relics (sets) , it contains many national treasures, most of which are on display in Zhejiang for the first time. The exhibition features the politics and trade of ancient Dunhuang, the society and life of ancient Dunhuang, the thousand-year relationship between Dunhuang and Zhejiang, and the art of Dunhuang Caves and murals, the stone pagodas, silks, bamboo slips, portrait bricks and scrolls unearthed from Dunhuang archaeology are on display, it demonstrates the five outstanding characteristics of Chinese civilization: continuity, Innovation, Unity, inclusiveness and peace, it interprets the silk road spirit of“Peaceful cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit”.

During this Silk Road Week, the organizers also meticulously organized a series of exhibitions, academic seminars, as well as a series of wonderful activities at home and abroad, such as Silk Road Studies, Silk Road culture entering campus, relay of Silk Road cultural relics posters, and short video relay of“100 museums and 100 things”, members of the public are welcome to sign up.
